Prior to our trip to Japan I read so many blogs with app suggestions and downloaded as much as possible before we got there. Little did I know that I’d end up using none of them and only used ones that I either already had or got when I was already there.
Every trip is different but in my experience less was more for us. I was able to find my way around all of Japan with a lot less than I anticipated. Here’s what I ended up using:
Google maps – This was our go to for train schedules and just walking around. We used this all the time. It’s great to check the night before so you’re aware of what stations you should take and it gives you a time idea so you can plan ahead of time.
Yelp – For food this was our main app. It helped us understand times and be able to just view options in a visual way. We used it like we would anywhere else.
Currency Converter Pro – I used this a lot to be able to convert any amount of money I had to. It helped us keep track of our spending for us to stay on budget.
And that’s it! I feel like, for us, Japan was a lot more low maintenance than the blogs I read led me to believe. These apps kept us on track and we were able to do everything we had scheduled.
